Welcome to WhigWham's
recommended "Utilities" section. Here you will find
a brief list of handy, time-saving and essential little Freeware/Shareware
applications to install on your computer, most of which are
available for download directly from our web server!
Many of these applications
are currently running on WhigWham's own internal networks, so
we vouch for their usefulness - perhaps you could find them
equally as useful on your own system.
All care has been taken

abSee™
Fontviewer.
abSee™ is a nifty little "freeware"
application by BlueHeronMoon.com
that enables you to easily view and compare
the installed fonts on your system. It has a
few other cool additional features, but we like
it because it is small, it works, and it is
FREE! |

EditPad™
Lite .
EditPad Lite is a general-purpose text editor
that works with Windows 95, NT4, 98, 2000, ME
and XP. It is designed to be small and compact,
yet offer all the functionality you expect from
a basic text editor.
Replace the "Notepad" used on your
Microsoft system with this and you won't be
disappointed! It can handle multiple documents
via a "tabbed" interface, and has
excellent search/replace functionality - we
use and recommend this program for anyone who
works with anything other than MS Word documents. |

PowerArchiver™.
The "Ultimate Freeware Archive Utility"
for Windows 95/98/NT/2000. Full, built-in support
(create archive, add/extract/delete/view files)
for ZIP, CAB, LHA, LZH, TAR, TAR.GZ and BH (BlakHole)
archives. Can read and extract from RAR, ARJ,
ACE, ARC, ZOO and GZip archives. Many more powerful
and practical features.
Having been one of our favourite freeware programs
for the last few years, the latest version of
powerarchiver has now become "shareware".
It still works just as well, though. Most of
it's functions are accessed within the "right-click"
menu for any file you wish to extract/compact.

Auto-run
HTML CD Utility.
We are unsure where we initially obtained this
utility, but we find it invaluable to create
CD-based presentations that "auto-run"
when you insert the disk. If you have a CD-R
burner and would like to use these utilities,
it is as simple as placing the extracted files
into the root folder of your CD image along
with your introductory web page or website.
Then simply edit the "showhtml.ini"
file in any text editor and change the file
name to that of your own page and burn your
CD - it is that simple! |

Ad-Aware™.
AD-aware is a FREE multi-spyware removal tool
that detects and safely removes advertising
spyware from your system. AD-aware now includes
the detection and removal of Web3000, Gator,
Cydoor, RadiateAureate, ConducentTimeSink and
CometCursor, and with the latest version you
can scan all drives, even customising the scanning
depth.
But what is "Spyware", I hear you
ask. Well it is a topic of major interest on
the Internet recently. Basically, are you aware
that many of the programs you install will also
install a background little application that
will send your personal information to them,
even when you are not using that program! Popular
applications that have been implicated include
Gator™ and RealPlayer™. For the latest

BPFTP is one of the best FTP file transfer utilities
available. It is capable of reconnecting and

ZoneAlarm™.
Brought to you by ZoneLabs, ZoneAlarm
is a freeware "firewall" utility that
is extremely easy to install (just follow the
excellent included instructions). A "firewall"
is a hardware/software utility that provides
an impenetrable barrier between your computer
network and the Internet. The unique technologies
utilised by ZoneLabs in this program has resulted
in this being consistently one of the best-performing
firewalls available - did we mention it is FREE?
